N-up & Booklet PDF Imposition Online Free

Imposition is the print-shop technique of laying out multiple source pages on a single sheet so they print, fold, and bind into a finished document. Our free imposition tool covers the two most useful flavours: N-up (2/4/6/9 pages per sheet for handouts, slide notes, and reading copies) and booklet (auto-arranged for saddle-stitch or perfect-bound printing). No watermarks, no signup, no upload caps in the free tier up to 50 pages.

Upload one PDF, pick a mode, dial in margins and gutter, and we'll do the math on cell sizing and page reorder. The output is a regular PDF you can print double-sided from any printer or PDF viewer.

How to Use the Imposition Tool

  1. Click "Upload PDF File" and pick a PDF.
  2. Choose N-up or Booklet.
  3. For N-up: pick 2/4/6/9 pages per sheet, orientation, and gutter width.
  4. For Booklet: pick saddle-stitch (the usual choice) or perfect-bound.
  5. Set the outer margin (default 10 mm is a safe printer margin).
  6. Click "Generate Imposed PDF" and print double-sided from your viewer.

When to Use Each Mode

  • 2-up: reading copies, side-by-side comparison, halving paper for long documents.
  • 4-up: slide handouts, reference cards, and study printouts.
  • 6/9-up: contact sheets, ultra-compact handouts.
  • Saddle-stitch booklet: programs, zines, short manuals printed double-sided and folded.
  • Perfect-bound: longer documents bound at the spine, where pages stay in order in 2-up signatures.
